The Ventura County Health Care Agency is planning a project to replace older facilities in order to bring the hospital campus up to state seismic standards and to enhance the Agency’s delivery of essential medical services to the county.

The Ventura County Medical Center is a Regional Medical System with the hospital serving as the hub of a county-wide health care system.  The hospital is also the primary safety-net hospital for Ventura County.  Additionally, the center is a teaching hospital with programs for family practice residency, nurses, and other health care professionals.  The center was also recently designated a Level 2 trauma facility, one of only two in the county.

The proposed project will construct approximately 200,000 square-feet of acute care facilities including:

  • Diagnostics and Imaging
  • Operating Rooms
  • Emergency Department
  • Intensive Care and Telemetry
  • Medical and Surgical Units
  • Obstetrics, Neonatal and Pediatric Intensive Care Units
  • Central Supply

The majority of the building is planned to be 3 stories high plus a mechanical enclosure on top.  The project will also include relocating the existing steam plant operations into the new building, partial demolition of the existing facilities, and renovation of the existing facilities that are not demolished.  The hospital will remain fully functional throughout the duration of the project.  Construction is planned to begin in mid 2013 and be completed by mid 2017.
